Insurance & Payment

I run a private-pay practice. I’m not contracted with any commercial insurance companies, and I’m no longer contracted with VT-Medicaid. I am, however, in-network with Medicare.

If you have Medicare, your sessions may be billed directly. For all other insurance, full payment is due at the time of service. I’ll provide you with a receipt — a “superbill” — that you can submit directly to your insurance company for possible reimbursement under your out-of-network benefit. Since I’m not contracted with insurance companies, I won’t have access to information about your specific benefits; I’d encourage you to contact your insurer directly to ask about your out-of-network coverage.

Fees are payable by cash, check, credit card, or HSA card. I offer a limited number of sliding-scale sessions for those who qualify based on financial hardship, full-time student status, or active military service and their dependents.

CareCredit financing available

For those considering an intensive, CareCredit is also available as a financing option, allowing you to spread the cost over time, often with deferred interest.

A few practical notes: insurance and Medicare generally do not cover sessions longer than an hour, so 85-minute sessions are private pay regardless of your coverage. I don’t carry unpaid balances — if two or more sessions go unpaid, we’ll need to pause our work together until that’s resolved. Returned checks carry a $45 fee. I review my rates annually and will give at least 30 days’ notice before any increase takes effect.

Intensive sessions and the equine facility fee are not eligible for insurance reimbursement.

Plans change. Here’s how that works.

Cancellation Policy

Standard sessions are 55 minutes and begin and end on time. If you’re late, the time missed isn’t made up by extending the session. Longer sessions and intensives are available by request, limited to schedule availability.

Sessions are typically scheduled weekly; appointment times aren’t automatically held from week to week, so it’s your responsibility to schedule your next session before you leave.

Individual, couples & family sessions

Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel. Sessions cancelled with less notice are billed in full. Exceptions may be made for dangerous weather or serious illness. This policy applies to both of us — if I need to cancel, the same standard holds. Insurance and Medicare do not reimburse for missed sessions.

Intensives

Because intensives require significant schedule blocking and advance preparation, cancellations are refunded on a sliding scale based on notice given:

14 days or less before start20% refund

15–18 days before start60% refund

19–28 days before start80% refund

29 days or more before start100% refund, less $200 admin fee

All refunds are reduced by any credit card processing fees. Cancellations due to weather or illness are credited in full toward a future rescheduled intensive.

If You’re in Crisis

As a private-pay solo practice, I’m not able to provide 24-hour emergency or on-call services. If you’re experiencing a medical or psychiatric emergency, please go to your nearest hospital emergency room or call 911.

As part of our intake process, we’ll talk through your current needs and assess whether a private practice without 24-hour crisis coverage is the right level of care for you. If your needs call for more support than I’m able to provide, I’ll let you know and help point you toward a better fit.

If you’re in emotional distress and need to talk to someone, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is available 24 hours a day — call or text 988. Veterans and service members can reach the Veterans Crisis Line the same way: dial 988, then press 1.

I hold office hours Monday through Friday and am often unavailable by phone while in session. If you’re an existing client in crisis, you’re welcome to call and leave a message — I generally return calls the same business day. For anything that can’t wait, please use the crisis resources above rather than waiting to hear back from me.

How to Reach Me

I hold office hours Monday through Friday. For scheduling, billing questions, or non-urgent matters, the best way to reach me is by phone at (802) 356-1731 — I’ll return your call within 24 hours during office hours, and messages left on weekends or holidays are returned the next business day.

Email is best reserved for scheduling only. Since standard email isn’t fully secure, I’d ask that you avoid sending sensitive or detailed information that way — a phone call is a safer choice for anything personal.

A bit of reading before we begin.

New Client Forms

There are a few forms to review and complete before we begin working together — fair warning, it’s a lot of paperwork. Please read through everything in its entirety; you’ll learn more about me, how I approach this work, and other details relevant to our time together. As you read, jot down any questions that come up. We’ll have time to talk through them when we meet.

Once you’ve downloaded and completed the forms, you can upload them to a secure shared folder — I’ll email you the link when we schedule your intake session. This keeps your protected health information off of unsecured email.
